Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla
WHO WE ARE
Inspired by the Legend of Pirate Jose Gaspar, Ye Mystic Krew of Gasparilla was founded in 1904 as an organization dedicated to enriching the vitality and imagination of Tampa and its surrounding community.
The YMKG Invasion & Parade of Pirates ranks as the third largest parade in the United States, attracting one half million attendees annually and generating over $22 million in economic impact. The YMKG Children’s Parade is the largest of its kind in the United States, offering a family-friendly, non-alcoholic venue for over 250,000 annual attendees.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH & CULTURAL ENRICHMENT
Through special appearances, Krewe members (of the YMKG-established Inter-Krewe Council) participate in events to promote the Bay Area community. Krewe members—decked in pirate attire—regularly visit hospitals, assisted living centers, and schools, engaging the community in the spirit and fun of Gasparilla events.
Over the past two decades, the Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla Community Fund has awarded $840,000 in 4-year college scholarships to high school seniors graduating from Hillsborough County schools.
Every year, YMKG partners with the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Department of Defense to sponsor the YMKG Invasion and Parade, which provides entertainment to millions of people from all over the world.

Gasparilla Music Festival
The Foundation produces the Gasparilla Music Festival in downtown Tampa each year during the 2nd weekend of March. The 2017 festival takes place March 10-11 and will feature an exciting mix of over 40 bands across 5 stages. Past performers have included Cage the Elephant, Erykah Badu, Modest Mouse and the Flaming Lips playing alongside Tampa Bay’s best bands.
GMF is more than just a festival. The non-profit provides support for music education throughout the year through its Recycled Tunes program which to date has provided over 200 new and refurbished instruments to local bay area schools. GMF is proud to be partnering with the 2017 Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl Game, ESPN and the student athletes to grow this program so that it can continue to give the gift of music.
