Highly-Popular Beach Bash Event Moves to Madeira Beach

Event Set for Wednesday, Dec 24  

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (November 7, 2014) - The St. Petersburg Bowl has announced that this year's Beach Bash will be hosted by the City of Madeira Beach (FL) on Wednesday, Dec. 24.  This annual event, which is open to the public, has developed into a marquee happening during bowl week with both teams enjoying an afternoon at the beach and then competing head-to-head in a number of events in front of their fans. Following practice sessions earlier in the day, the two teams will arrive at Madeira Beach and enjoy a lunch feast hosted at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. in John’s Pass Village & Boardwalk.  At 3:00 p.m. the teams will then venture out to the beach to take advantage of many recreational offerings including beach volleyball and paddle boards.  At 5:00 p.m. the teams and their fans will gather at the stage and around the large pool for the start of the competitions.  The first round of bragging rights will be up for grabs with the teams competing in multiple head-to-head contests including the much-anticipated belly flop contest and numerous talent contests. "The City of Madeira made a great presentation to host this year's Beach Bash," said Brett Dulaney, Executive Director of the St. Petersburg Bowl.   "We look forward to being able to showcase the city's beautiful beach area and Johns Pass to the teams and their fans that will be at this year's event." “City of Madeira Beach is humbled by the opportunity to serve as the official Beach Bash host for the St. Petersburg Bowl, “said Shane Crawford, City Manager for the City of Madeira Beach.  “We welcome the two teams, their alumni, family, and fans from around the country to our city and beautiful beaches.” Misty Wells, MWI Marketing & PR, City of Madeira Beach added, “With the 14 million dollar additions and renovations that the City has almost completed the timing is perfect to showcase our leap into the future” The City of Madeira Beach is making plans for the fans as well as the official travel parties.  A live band will perform on stage leading up to the competitions and a photo booth will be setup for fans to take pictures and post the images on their social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.  Merchandise booths will also be at the venue with official bowl game merchandise. The St. Petersburg is owned and operated by ESPN Events, a subsidiary of ESPN. The 2014 game will be played on Friday, Dec. 26, at 8:00 p.m. ET at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. The game, which will air on ESPN, is in its first-year of its new conference affiliation with the ACC and the American.
